First road bike for commuting, fitness and weekend blasts

Hi all,
As the title suggests, I’m looking to buy my first road bike for cycling to work, general fitness, and a bit of fun on the evenings and weekends. Mostly riding on roads and cycle paths (probably 90% of the time), but it would be nice to be able to take the odd track too should I need to. I want it to be comfortable but nippy, have the option to run wider tyres for comfort/grip. I have a budget of £1000 for the bike, and £250 for accessories.
Based on the above, does anybody have any advice about what type of bike might be suitable? I have been looking around for some time now, but a bit blinded by all the options! A pointer or two would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

Look for an adventure or cyclocross bike, alu frame with tiagra or above gears. They do exactly what you are looking, and on your bugdet they are plenty really good options there. If you make a short list, we can help you to decide for the best one.0

Thats exactly the type that i am talking, even if i dont like the 1x110 -
A cyclocross or gravel bike may be ideal for your needs, something like the Cannondale CAADX Tiagra. Most can take wide tyres, mudguards and have disc brakes. The compact dropped handlebars make longer rides more comfortable and help you build confidence on descents. A 2x10 or 2x11 speed setup will give you a nice spread of gears to cover most bases.0
