Evening all, I have a set of 2017 Cosmic pro carbon exalith wheels and the rear has side to side play. Now I know you use the tool to tighten them up which I have done on the front BUT the rear doesn't have any holes for the tool??? On my ksyriums the front and rear both can be adjusted.

QR is done up tight can't see how I'd stop the play.
Thanks in advance.

    judging by the diagrams here...

    https://tech.mavic.com/tech-mavic/techn ... s/2_27.pdf

...the rear hub is not adjustable

some mavic wheels are 'adjusted' by doing up the qr tighter...

Hi Sungod, I've looked over those and even the Ksyrium it doesn't say where it can be adjusted (I know where it is on the hub) so i guess i was looking for a "bearing preload adjustment" on the diagram but on both the Pro Carbon Exalith and Ksyrium it doesn't mention this.

Can't really tighten the Qr up any more than it already is either.

Item 15 mentions "Hub bolt" so just wondering if tightening this up would help?

if you look at page 23 you'll see front wheel has "V2552501 FRONT SETTING NUT & DUST PROTECTOR MY16" and the axle drawing suggests it may be threaded

but on page 25 the rear wheel does not have the setting nut

the oddly named 'hub bolt' is certainly worth a try, maybe if you pull off the end cap the adjustment tool fits it

otherwise if they are new wheels, contact the dealer and ask

Going to try this tonight and will report back. Only 5 months old and 1250 miles in so if all else fails I'll pop in to see my LBS where purchased.

    Cheers

I'm going to guess that your wheels came with one of these. https://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/mav ... 7Qod8yIFOQ

For adjusting the preload. Why not have a go yourself before going to the shop? Its a 10 second job that'll either work or not.

Have you read the thread FA? I know what that tool is (I have 4 of them) but my rear wheel doesn't have the holes in the hub to use it. Hence the thread.

I popped the axel adapter off but couldn't do any more adjustment.

This is what greeted me http://imgur.com/a/xvJC0 and the Mavic tool doesn't sit in here. I've popped them round to my LBS mechanic who said they have a service tool at work. He believes this should nip up and solve it.

Pretty sure those 4 little holes are positioned to correspond with the pegs on the Mavic tool. In the EV on their website, that part is called a "hub bolt" which I would guess is a translation error of hub "nut".

Can you undo it? (i.e. is it perhaps already at the adjustment limit?)

    What do I know.

Let him take it to the bike shop FA.
  • Negative on the Mavic tool it didn't fit in there.

Mechanic has stated the NDS bearing has gone and the DS is on the way. Water ingress apparently, 1400 miles in. Although i have ridden in some really wet weather in the last couple of months (who hasn't)

that's not good, bearing seals can be iffy, but 1400 miles really is unacceptable

when replacing i'd pack them with decent waterproof grease, and smear some around the outside of the bearings as well
