As the title really. Been using my Cannondale on my turbo but it gets the occasional BB creak which it never gets when out on the road, and id rather not have to keep dropping the back wheel to mount it.

So i'm looking for a bike to permanently attach to the turbo with maybe the odd commute to work. willing to spend around £1000 with an aluminium frame, the question is, can the B'twin Triban 540 be beat for £650 the only downside seems to be its weight which wont matter too much in my backroom :)

I bought a Merida Ride 400 last year for turbo and winter/wet ride use. Threaded BB so no PF creakings to contend with. I was lucky in managing to get 2016 model at an end of model year price. Current 2017 models are £1,000 with 11 speed 105.
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

Why not build a bitsa if it's only going on the turbo trainer or having very occasional use?

I bought the cheapest Decathlon road bike I could - I think it was approx £220 in a sale. It's only ever been on the Turbo, and perhaps not surprisingly has been fault free for the last 18 months.

^ This. Why spend a grand on a bike just for the turbo and odd bit of road use? As long as the geometry and fit are right for you buy something for under £500 and spend the extra dosh on some sweet stuff for your nice road bike instead! Or a lot of cake.
