Snapped rear dropout

Hi. Long time rider of a (1996ish) Raleigh Dynatech Tourmalet-Reynolds Optima chromoly tubing, Campagnolo Mirage group set.

Yesterday chain seemed to get stuck as I pushed off and a rear dropout broke off (couple of pics below), also warping the rear derailleur and pulley, breaking a cog tooth. Lucky it was from standing start on an incline really.

May head to local shop this weekend, but until then think I know the answer but have to ask - is there any likelihood of a cost-effective repair?

Appreciate it was getting old (ok rebuilt wheel, new wheel, chains etc), and guess would be hard to find odd Mirage parts, but such a part of my life. I'm quite gutted.

Cheers. J

Smash the remains with a hammer, set fire to it with fire and throw in next door's garden I'm afraid. That's well broken.

If all other bits are cool, get a frame from Ribble/PX or similar and build up. All budgets catered for.

If you are particularly attached to it, any decent framebuilder could braze another dropout in there for you, and likely have it sprayed to match.

I have no idea much it would cost though...

Cheapest fix is a S/H frame or as suggested above, a bargain from PX, Ribble etc

That's what I assumed. A sad day. Just as the weather's picking up.
I'm well out of the loop on parts/builds these days. Haven't really perused these things since Indurain was riding...

It's repairable, but not financially viable, so unless you are particularly attached to the frame, and given the age and the number of the other components damaged, I would suggest its new bike time.

If a frame is likely cheaper than a repair, doubtful it's worth it when add in mirage replacements. But if a possibility I'll ask at shop, thanks.

I am attached to it, but more about cost of new one. From initial browsing looks like everything's fallen in price over the years, except bikes.

If it's doable I'll enquire just to find out how much, but as you say seems unlikely to be cost-effective. Cheers

Mercian want £95 to replace a single dropout. Don't suppose that includes any painting...

£80 from Bob Jackson. Paint extra of course.

What size are? I know someone who has a couple of brand new unused ali frames in his loft gathering dust. Not bad quality, painted just unbranded. Drop me a pm.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will get back to you after weekend when I have an idea of additional replacement costs for derailleur etc if that's ok.

    Big word of respect.

It's not my frame/s but drop me a pm and I'll get the wheels in motion. No rush at all.

Just wanted to add looking at options with the shop.

Sending off to argos, pricey with carriage. £100+
Mechanic doing the work/weld. Also pricey when factor in the jig setup/time. Probably £100+
Replace frame and rebuild. Could be doable if they can dig right size out 2nd hand. £Unknown atm

Still involves additional cost of a campag 8-speed rear mech and fitting. Not sure will work out financially sensible, but worth finding out I think. Thanks again for previous replies.

Thanks again for the offer, but now repaired. Took some time to find a solution for 8-speed campag rear mech in a world where they don't exist much any more.

Shop was able to weld dropout back on. For sake of cost I still need to hammerite it (bothered about function not looks), but happy with result. New set of pulleys, and worked to put on a cage for 9-speed.

For info it all came to £140.

If you taped a line just past where you need to paint and match it on the other side you wouldnt know that that had been repaired unless you looked for it.
I'm left handed, if that matters.

Maybe. Have ordered some in blue, otherwise not too concerned about aesthetics.
But perhaps if the first side goes very well.

Done. Thanks for the tape hint. Honestly not sure I wouldn't have tried 'blending'.
