Cummings again for me. Looks absolutely wonderful on a bike - like he was born to ride it. That ridiculous stem helps, must be more like steering a boat than a bike

Nairo and Adam Blythe as well

Some styles look slow, even when they're not.

I put Kiryenka and Quintana in that bracket.

I like a bit of dynamism in the style.

Style is a word used a lot in cycling. On one level it’s very practical. It helps quantify form and efficiency. A good riding style is efficient because more power goes into the pedals per calorie of energy burned, but the style we are talking about here is so much more than that.

Cycling is very visual. It’s quite graceful too when you think about it. A bicycle transfers the up and down motion of the rider’s legs into smoothly spinning wheels, and the most stylish riders do that with the greatest grace.

Not current but interesting subjective list of 25.
Coppi used to say that when he was riding well he felt like he was pedalling from his kidneys. We think what he meant was he felt like his body was held rigid so that his legs could press down on the pedals from a rock solid platform. Translate that to what we know now and Coppi is talking about core strength. So, if you want an explanation for why he was so good that’s it: Coppi had phenomenal strength in his lower back and legs.

I'm late to this - not looked thru the other pages - but I take it it's just

    'Contador'

    no?

Pah!The cycling equivalent of mutton dressed as lamb, with his ridiculous sunbed tan and white shorts, rides a bike like a blancmange balanced on a broom handle.

No. Contador looks like a dog itching its arse when he's shuffling back and forth on the TT bike and his gurning against the gear when he's stood climbing looks terrible.

    Kiri - obvs.

Nieve - not sure why but his style is really distinctive. It looks a bit like he's got a really wide q-factor which sounds like it shouldn't look good but it does. And he descends quite distinctively as well but again, can't say why.

Cummings - not so much the style of pedalling but just loitering casually around the back with seemingly no intent...

I always thought Fondriest looked the nuts. Cancellers and Boonen as well.

Current riders. GvA always looks good. Nice form.
Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day. Besides, we both know that I'm training to be a cage fighter.

Can we do this as a vote at the end of the Giro?

Probably have to do some nominations first.

But a vote would suggest we value everyone's opinion equally.... ;-) ;-)

After the Tour of California the opposite Pedaleur de Merde list should add Ian Boswell to the list. What a mess.

In terms of smaller riders, I was thinking Yates looked good on the bike today.

There are some riders who look wrong but somehow manage to look good at the same time. Sagan and Katie Archibald fall into that category for me. Some riders look so wrong though that they're beyond redemption. Alessandro Ballan is one that springs to mind.

I don't especially like Yates' pedalling style, he looks (they both look) very fixed and upright. He also churns a well high gear.

I thought Rolland looked pretty good in the finale yesterday. Wasn't gurning too much. Landa has been on TV a lot and he looks pretty fluid.
