Anyone recommend any decent sites to get some that are cheaper than Healthspan/Boots/Holland & Barrett?

Cheers, ears.

Sorry, no. What you after them for?

My knees are knackered* but Ive never been convinced by any of the claims made about glucosamine.

*my knee specialist agrees. About my knees that is. And when we looked at the MRI scan and he suggested not going for more surgery, he never suggested anything but being careful and occasional ibuprofen.

I bought a job lot from Costco. Don't know if it works or if it's placebo. Either way, my knees and ankles feel better, so I don't much care.

zipvit sell loads of things like that

but as above it's of dubious merit, don't there's any clear evidence that it's worth taking

I found this on the arthritis research site...

Side-effects, which are usually mild and infrequent, include:

    stomach upsets
    constipation
    diarrhoea

    headaches
    rashes.

Does that mean normal function then :D

Oh yes, and they say the effectiveness (on their scorechart) is 2 out of 5.

Cheers guys - will check the above. Have done a quick Google and all looks the same but you never know what you're getting.

Agree completely re comments re effectiveness as above: my knees are shot so take cod liver oil and g/s: again, have no idea if it works or not and all studies are pretty inconclusive but my knees do tend to feel better when I'm talking it and I don't have any side effects so why not?

At the moment I've buggered my meniscus jumping off things so am hobbling like a communter ...

Not your imagination sunny and I haven't the heart to tell them family woe is more of a cake stop thing.

Hmmm - we do seem to be getting it in the neck. Mine are trivial compared to some, but when I'm being sent away next month this is quite inconvenient ......

May just get smashed off my face on Ricard and Fentanol and see if that works until I track down some glucosamine.

    Another vote for Costco.

It's more the demographic of middle aged bloke feeling mortal as the illusion of invisibility drops away as loved ones have health issues and our names move much closer to the top of the list as to whose next.

Isn't GS the most debated health supplement around (although 79% of statistics are made up) and there is no evidence to back up its own claims?

That said I ran for a while about 3 years ago and couldn't walk backwards down our loft steps because of the pain, I'm in a current running fad and am taking GS and have to admit I have no problems... debate or not, I'm sticking with the pills.

Even though they taste like shit and stick to my throat every now and again.

Been taking them for years and we buy from Select Healthy here: https://www.selecthealthy.com/joints-bo ... 500mg.html. They are available in 1000 or 1500Mg for £9.49 and £14.99 respectively for 360 tabs.

No idea how that price compares with other sources but we put in an annual order for the GS and 3 other supplements (Cod Liver Oil, Omega 3 and Evening Primrose Oil) that my wife insists on feeding me! Also, no idea whether they really work but I don't seem to get much by way of joint pains which I think they are supposed to help with. That said, when I was working, I went without them for a couple of periods of about 8 weeks when on deployment and don't think I noticed any difference. Also the things didn't manage to stop me from slipping a disc in my back just before last Christmas which managed to keep me off the bike for nearly three months but, in fairness, I don't think they have ever claimed to! Still not got my fitness back after that which, I think, is another sign of ageing when it just takes longer.

Matthewfalle. Can I ask where are you being 'sent' to? Hope it's not Coventry.

I am a massive fan of supplements ... must have tried all of them by now in the hope of finding a magic pill.

Not a single bloody one has made a bit of difference for me to anything they claim (other than caffine) :( .. bit gutted to be honest I would love a magic pill

ITs not even as if I am not affected by placebo effect .. because shaving a couple or hundred grams off the bike does somehow make me faster

It's not just 'a' magic pill. Try lots of pills in different combinations :D

Sounds top stuff - will look them up - thank you.

As an aside, what does the evening primrose oil do? I thought that was for menopausal burds?

Fortunately not Coventry - as high as the potential is of the place being utterly rubbish, it can't ever be as bad as Coventry. Or Alsager. I've been in some really rubbish places but none as bad as Alsager. They say that 78%of the world's paedophiles come from Alsager.

    This - exactly.

As above, and I'll say it again just as a pointless post to increase my post count, I have no idea if they actually work or not, the old knees just seem to feel better when I'm on them. Can't hurt though can it? Or can it?

As an even further aside, all good on 6/10ths effort 5k today, even when fit bird decided to sit on me as we were doing sit ups. She was quite distracting.

Well, I haven't woken up soaking wet with sweat or snapped my Mrs head off for no reason in years so it must work for blokes as well. Also, it's another thing that's supposed to help the old joints.

Glad you're not going to Coventry or, indeed, Alsager. For obvious reasons, I haven't thought about the latter in years but, you're right about it. I suspect the relevant memories are stuck in that dark place in the back of my memory vault where I keep the stuff about various third world sh1tholes that I have been to and done things that I would rather forget about.

Cue a short wait for residents aformentioned places to scream at me.

Oh don't worry about them screaming at you - they are all too busy swimming in their own effluent and bumming their cousins in between masturbating in car parks to worry about anything you may have posted.

Added to the fact that they are all illiterate peasants I think you're safe.

The last gem of genius I heard about Alsager was that they managed to get the Manchester Met campus there closed down after years of harassing students. In one swoop they rid themselves of students who supplied 80% of the spending power both down the local shops and pubs and also sunk their rental property market without a trace. Inbred phucktards of the highest order.

No matter where you've been, it's not as bad as Alsager. Even Da'Esh refuse to go there as they feel they can't do anything to lower it any more..

Wouldn't even waste the energy hitting it with a hammer or the fire to set fire to it with fire.

Shame it wasn't blown up in the eighties really, although I think that shows how goddamn shyyyt it is that the IRA couldn't even be arsed to blow it up.
