Hi,

Thoughts??

Looking for winter road bike with disc brakes and 105 groupset for commuting on CTW scheme around £1200 mark.

-Anyone have experience/opinions on these 2 bikes?
-Anyone using TRP Spyre C Cable disc brakes got a view on these as cant really afford the jump to Hydraulic disc brakes?
-Any other bike recommendations based on criteria above?

Ta.

Having both 105 5800 and Tiagra 4700, if I was in the market for a new winter/commuter Tiagra would win each and every day. Both feel exactly the same and the only difference is probably 2-300g's. Cheaper too when having to replace parts commuting.

I use Spyre's on my commuter (with Tiagra!) and they aren't as nice, easy or as powerful as hydraulic but they do a job. I've gone back to them after having issues with semi-hydraulic brakes and although they need a bit more fettling I can live with them.

    Good info on groupo's

Is it worth getting cable discs over rim brakes and the extra weight? Wanna set brakes up and then just leave them without any faffing.

My issue was one of the calipers seized up. Could have been unlucky, as the brakes were 'better' than the spyre's in strength and feel.

I'm still undecided on if disc's are better than rim brakes....They work better in the rain and that is my main need, but need more upkeep and I was close to going back to rims last month.
