Brake rub at two points on rim

I have the following problem with my new front wheel...

Today I noticed that my brakes are pulsing and checked them out when I got back home. When gently applying the brakes, rub appears near the valve and exactly on the opposite side as well. Does that mean the wheel needs to be trued?

Sounds like it - you should be able to see if you spin the wheel whether it's out of true.

It looks like it when spinning the wheel... meh.

First ride brand new out of the box.

What brand is it? TBH I've had that on some cheap wheels where you hear the spokes pinging on the first ride or two - my Kona Paddy Wagon for instance. All of the 3 sets of Shimano RS80 wheels have never needed touching. Nor have the Volagi or the American Classics on the Jamis. Some you win...

If the blocks are rubbing both sides in the same place, sounds like rim is wider here so how will re-truing it help? If it were an older bike I would squeeze the rim in a vice. Otherwise it a warranty job.
The Wife complained for months about the empty pot of bike oil on the hall stand; so I replaced it with a full one.

I dont think he says they're rubbing on BOTH sides. Just the two points he's described.

This is a beginners question for some very fancy wheels ?

Depends if by opposite side he means diametrically opposite or left and right opposite sides. Could be someone with experience that is hoping his expensive wheels aren't that bad straight out the box and is optimistically searching for good news rather than what he suspects is the truth.
Truth being the wheels have a fault that new wheels shouldn't have. I'd be returning it to the supplier.

I took the wheels yesterday morning to my LBS which has been a ZIPP distributor back in the day. Front was slightly out of true so they fixed that. I just found it strange to have this issue with wheels straight out of the box. They explained to me that sometimes ZIPP wheels have this issue after a first ride. QC issues? God knows.

Toed in the brakes last night as well, just for reassurance. I took a quick spin around the neighbourhood, all good for now. I should be able to take the bike out on a couple of long rides in the next couple of days and hopefully won't have any issues to report...

And yes, I meant diametrically opposite.

    .

If you had a Shimano brake that didn't work, they'd say that sometimes Shimano brakes don't work after the first ride, if you had a loose headset, they'd say that sometimes headsets come loose after the first ride...

It's a standard answer to your phylosophical and difficult to answer question "Why?"

Because of course the answer is ugly: "the build quality is shite"

If I still have an issue, they are definitely going back. Shame for the tubs that are taped on the rim...

If only tubs were removable eh ?

Going to do RP laps tonight so decided to bring my bike to work and shoot off to the park straight after. No more pulsing from the front after truing. :)
