Hi all,
In June Im taking part in a 100 mile charity ride. Before then a few of us are doing some training rides, they are 50, 70 and 90 mile routes. The next ride we're doing is the 70 miler and I'm trying to plan the route. Now I know my Garmin has a round trip route planner facility on it whereby I can input that distance and it will offer me a choice of 3 routes to chose from. Ideally Id like to do this via a website. Is there such a site which offers the same thing i.e allows me to input a start location, then the distance and it will plan a route?
Thanks in advance.
Pete

I'd plan your route yourself
Garmin Connect will let you do this but isn't great if only because it doesn't have particularly reliable information about roads and you can end up on some dodgy farm track or footpath.
Mapmyride seems popular.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
Strava routes are great - select use popularity, pick two points and it will route you down the most popular route.
Far less likely to route you down farm tracks or dual carriageways.
Just watch out for centres of towns - it will often route you through major towns as they will have popularity; but I usually prefer skirting round to dodge traffic and lights. But you can always drag the route manually.
I've used all the others - Mapmyride, Ride with GPS, Garmin - Strava hands down has the most reliably good routes.0 -
Thanks for the replies. Should have made myself a bit clearer in original post maybe. Is there a website which I can use as an alternative to garmins round trip routing option?0

yes - they're called Cycling Clubs ...

Come on - planning a 50-90 mile ride isn't that hard using the tools already mentioned - or my preference - bikehike.co.uk
At least, by planning it yourself you'll be able to check on suitable stops, bailout routes, sufficient or too much climbing and have a rough idea of where to go.
Auto routes by computer are fine - but not really helpful in terms of your planning - of the options available, Strava point to point sounds like the best as it does at least look at popular riding routes - which is more likely to get suitable roads.0 -
A simple yes or no without sarcasm would have been preferred!0

I use ridewithgps, doesn't have the Functionality you're after, but I always think about the distance, then which café is roughly the mid way point and plan the route from there. A few clicks and you're done.WyndyMilla Massive Attack | Rourke 953 | Condor Italia 531 Pro | Boardman CX Pro | DT Swiss RR440 Tubeless Wheels

Ride off towards some hills until you get to about 25 miles then turn left, keep going for another twenty then left again and head home.
Planning is for lightweights.0
