Yes! I'm currently living in Heidelberg just on the edge of the Odenwald forest and it's brilliant here (certainly in comparison to Manchester and North Wales where I've previously lived).
The terrain here is fantastic: Odenwald Mountains to the North East, rolling hills to the South and Dutch-style flatlands to the West. Admittedly there are no alpine style climbs here, but most of them range between 10-30 minutes which I think is perfect for year round cycling. Road surfaces are also by and large excellent.
Infrastructure into/around/between cities and towns in the area is also very good, there's no shortage of people on bikes here.
Most other road users are considerate, although there are a significant number of motorcyclists who do treat some of the valley roads a bit like a race track- possibly the thing I dislike the most about living here.
Lots of English speakers too as it's a University city which makes things easier if dein Deutsch ist nicht so gut.0 -

If somewhere is cheap and quiet then there's a reason.
Like the centre of St.Tropez in August?
I'd rather slit my wrists.
I guess it depends what you're looking for in life.....
My second sentence was the important part. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -

OK, fair enough, but still not sure I'd agree though.
If you go deeper into Brittany (away from the coast) property is unbelievably cheap; you can get a really nice, characterful good size house and garden for under 100 000 Euros. The downside(?) is it's very quiet and you will be about 20 minutes from the nearest good size town.
But, your outgoings are very low, crime is non-existent, the weather is mostly good, roads, infrastructure, schools and hospitals are excellent, food is good, local and natural, etc. etc. You may well have fibre internet too and catch a 3 hour train to Paris. For someone looking to escape the rat race and 'reconnect with nature' it's perfect.
There will be similar kinds of places in Spain and Italy too if you want more heat, but a bit less organisation...!0 -
Probably Mallorca, a finca near Binissalem would be nice, other than that, Tuscany would be good, I've also heard Girona is nice, so many choices!Eddy Merckx EMX-3

Perfect for others. That's why suggestions are irrelevant unless posted by a kindred spirit. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
