How do BB30 to HT2 Adaptors come off??
Just bought a CAAD8 Frame second hand and think the adaptors are worn, no idea how to remove it, how do I do it?
Picture below, it appears to only send to public onedrive folder and I can't be arsed fixing it so that'll have to do.

I normally just pull them out with my fingers!
If they are stuck solid? A large screw driver or a piece of wood dowel inserted from the opposite side of the one you are trying to knock out. Just tap the screwdriver handle with the palm of your hand, make sure you are not trying to knock out the bearing instead of the adaptor. 8)0 -
Oh right, managed to take the black adaptor bits but looks like the BB30 bearings are knackered or is it the adsptor?
Are the bearings easy to remove?0 -
Bearings are easy to drift out with a piece of dowling and mallet.
Do you have fresh ones to put back in?
Once drifted out , they have to be replaced as noo matter how careful you were they will be damaged.
Cheap enough from Ebay suppliers.0 -
Blimey it's like with scooter and skateboard bearings, ABEC 5 etc.. I'm not sure what are good ones to get??0

The size you need are 6806 2RS 30x42x7mm
I've tried SRAM,Cannondale and FSA branded BB30 bearings and now i use generic chinese bearings. The branded ones didnt seem to last any longer so i dont think they are worth the extra ££.
I've had good results with these ones below with metal seals. My current set i have been using nearly two years.

These are cheaper but they are from China

Blimey under 2 quid cheap as chips! How long do they last for? Seems like a huge saving over Hollowtech 2 and the adaptor bits the plastic things don't look like they'll wear quick.
Is it hard to get the chainset tightened right? Must be some catch?0 -
Hard to give an exact figure how long they will last. It depends on what conditions and mileage and load they will endure.
BB30 bearings will not last as long as Hollowtech 2 bearing because HT2 are better protected and sealed because they are encased in a metal cup with a plastic cover.
BB30 bearings are open to the elements more. Dirt and water can enter the shell more easily. Because of that it's best to apply a generous amount of grease around the BB30 bearings (both inside and out the BB shell) to help protect the them better. And periodically clean out any dirt that does find it's way into the bb shell and then regrease.
Over the last 6 years i've owned 4 different BB30 frames. The shortest length a bearing lasted was several months. The longest around 2 years, but on average id say each lasted a year or 1.5 years or more. But i tend to change my bearings if they start to feel very rough when turned with my fingers. In fairness I could have got more mileage out of them if i pushed them to the point of failure. When they do fail they do it in singles. So you only need to replace 1 bearing at a time, not both. The common symptoms of a failed bearing is either a clicking noise or a screech type noise. If you check then by hand you can usually feel the notchiness of the broken bearing.
You shouldn't have any issues getting the chainset tightened. The chinese bearings above are exactly the same dimensions as the branded bearings. 6806 2RS 30x42x7mm bearings were around long before BB30 was invented. The catch is you dont get ripped off by paying £10-20 for branded bearing that are in all liklihood coming out of the same factories.
The BB30 to HT2 adapter will be made from tough plastic or metal and should not wear at all.0
