Just completed the tour of Ayrshire gran fondo and looking back over the data of riders in the group I rode with, noticed the amazing difference in elevation recorded by our Garmins. Ranging from 3,500ft to an astonishing 5000ft for the same course

    It's the altimeter that the garmin uses.
    It's stupid.

    If they correct their elevation on strava they should all work out to be about the same.

    Even once the data are on Strava, they differ wildly. I remember having 800 mt for the same course a friend of mine had 1300 mt... that is over 50% more and frankly as data go, pretty poor...

    Just look at classic events like the Fred Whitton... among those who did it in the past 3 years (course has not changed) the elevation varies from 2900 to 3800 mt

    From what I heard about the quality of the roads, the extra 1500ft could be accounted for by potholes :twisted:
