Hi guys,
my two cycling mates have just bought new bikes.. and well.. you know what happens next!
I'm looking at these two bikes... Cannondale Habit 5 2017, and a Whyte 129 129 S 2016 (found a few online offers and not a huge difference in prices). Atomic snot green is the way forward
I have a Scott scale 960 which is great and I use for most of my riding... moorland trails etc. But what I am after now is a bike to replace my brilliant 2008 trek fuel EX9. I'm not an extreme rider at all! I'm more red route than black and very rarely get any air time. Dalby forest red route is exactly me. I tend to hang off the back and roll the descents as opposed to blast down them. Really my trek is perfect for this I know... I just fancy a change.
any feedback would be appreciated what do you think... is the whyte is a little too 'all mountain' for my type of riding??
Hope everyone is having a great weekend!
Neil

Links to specs helps, budget as well.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

I'm looking at a max budget of around 2.2k which I know isn't much these days for a full suss xc/trail bike
thanks

I'd want a lot more than a Recon for 2 grand, so the Whyte. If you're a midget.I don't do smileys.

damn! there was a large
so you think the canondale is under-specced fork wise?0 -
I think you have lot of options at your price and good bike specs.
have a look on pauls cycle website

How about Giant Anthem SX 2 they have large frame

Giant, YT? You could get a YT Jeffsy with money to spare! Or a Bird Aeris.Daddy, Husband, Designer, Biker, Gamer, Geek

Yeah.... I've ditched the Cannondale!
The anthem sounds good (had a trance and an xtc in the past). The jeffsy looks very interesting as well! hmm....0 -
ok! we are now here....

I could probably get a test ride for most of these (or at least similar models in the range),... not sure about getting a ride on the YT?? which is a shame as that looks like an interesting bike.0 -
You need to have a good look at bike availability, some of them are request order only and YT is not available until July, the giant you link is very nice bike 1x11, rev forks which are lot better then the Sektor on Scots, you need to take into consideration sram group sets, just have look around how much for replacement parts if you damage,Sram x1 rear mech cost around £130, I always have been shimano but my recent bike come with sram, is lower budget GX but I do like the feel of it more then shimano XT, personal opinion nice feel but very expensive for higher end parts.
I would forget the Scott, £1999 for Sektor forks and brakes that cost £25 each is a joke
At the end of the day is your own decision which you go for.0 -
that's a fair point about the scott... ditched!
that leaves me with the - cube, anthem or maybe wait for the yt... I think I'll try and sort out a couple of test rides and take it from there
Cheers guys!

Canyon just won bike of the year and their alu Spectral just got 5/5 review on BikeRadar so worth a look.0
-
Thanks, I'll check that out!0

I'm just looking at the canyon website now. There's a lot of bike for your money on here.....
Yeah the spectral and neuron range looks good! With the neuron: XT, SLX, and reba kit - for 1600 quid! much better than the likes of scot and Cannondale etc.
I really need to try one of these out!0 -
I got one of these last year. It seems to suit me pretty well,
