Not a huge amount really - attacks going off the front but it keeps coming back together.

Lots of riders have been shelled, much smaller group.

    GVA's moving up.

Formolo off the front with 8s @3km

Probably was Martin's best shot to be fair, go slightly early rather than wait for Valverde to kick it off.

All a bit of a yawnfest I thought.

Yeah, would have been much more exciting if Formolo or Fraile had managed to make it look like sticking.

Fair play to Martin. Reckon he gave that his best, unfortunately Valverde's moustache twirling was just better!

Damnit! (More annoying as I had a couple of quid each on Kwiat and Martin to win)

I'm not sure what Kwiatkowski was up to. Right at the back with 1km to go, boxed in when Martin & Valverde moved.

1 Alejandro Valverde (Spa) Movistar Team 6:24:27
2 Daniel Martin (Irl) Quick-Step Floors
3 Michal Kwiatkowski (Pol) Team Sky 0:00:03
4 Michael Matthews (Aus) Team Sunweb
    5 Jon Izaguirre (Spa) Bahrain-Merida
6 Romain Bardet (Fra) AG2R La Mondiale
    7 Michael Albasini (Swi) Orica-Scott
    8 Adam Yates (GBr) Orica-Scott 0:00:07
    9 Michael Woods (Can) Cannondale-Drapac
    10 Rafal Majka (Pol) Bora-Hansgrohe
  • Boring race, but Valverde is a bloody champion. Can't blame Martin this time around. Only Kwiatkowski can be accused of being nowhere among the top 3.

Michael Matthews in fourth. Fair play.

I couldn't work out what happened to Kwia; when Moscon was pulling entering the final he was 3rd wheel, then by the time they started up the last climb he had completely vanished. Weird.

He just seems to know how to time his efforts in the last 500m in this and Flèche. Just experience really.
