I am tall and I am thin
    Of an enviable height
And I've been known to be quite handsome
In a certain angle and in certain light

I'm coming up only to hold you under
And coming up only to show you're wrong
And to know you is hard; we wonder...
To know you all wrong; we warn.

All lies and jest..still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest....

Yebbut. Set aside the Nine Inch Nails original.

Seek out the iconic video, watch then remember June Carter Cash died 3 months after it was filmed and JC himself died 7 months after. Takes a hard hard person not to be moved.

Comfortably Numb was written after an anaesthetic not heroin addiction
    from wiki
According to Rolling Stone, the lyrics came from Roger Waters' experience when he was injected with tranquilizers for stomach cramps by a doctor prior to playing a Pink Floyd show in Philadelphia on the band's 1977 In the Flesh tour

'A long time ago came a man on a track
Walkin' 30 miles with a sack on his back...'

'When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful...'

'Your six blade knife can do anything for you...'

    'No more carefree laughter
    Silence ever after...'

'It's three o'clock in the morning
And the rain begin to fall...'

    'Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again...'

'It's knowin' that your door is always open
And your path is free to walk...'

'Ain't no sunshine when she's gone...'

    'La mer...'

    'Everybody's talking at me
    I don't hear a word they're saying
Only the echoes of my mind...'

    'Mahna Mahna
    Do doo be-do-do...'

'Hey little girl is your daddy home
Did he go away and leave you all alone...'

'Getting crazy on the waltzers but it's the life that I choose...'

'Finished with my woman 'cause she couldn't help me with my mind...'

    'I got a gal who's always late
Any time we have a date...'

'There she stood in the street
Smiling from her head to her feet...'

'When I wake up in the morning, love
And the sunlight hurts my eyes...'

'I, I'm I'm so in love with you
    Whatever you want to do
    Is all right with me...'

'Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a woman's man: no time to talk...'

'I am just a poor boy
    Though my story's seldom told...'

'Let us be lovers, we'll marry our fortunes together...'

'All the leaves are brown (all the leaves are brown)
And the sky is grey (and the sky is grey)...'

'The sirens are screaming, and the fires are howling
Way down in the valley tonight...'

'I need love, love to ease my mind
I need to find, find someone to call mine...'

'Dirty old river, must you keep rolling...'

    'We're caught in a trap
    I can't walk out
Because I love you too much baby...'

'Rising up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances...'

'He left no time to regret
    Kept his dick wet
With his same old safe bet...'

They are about drugs in some particular form or another and their effects. Not about the hopelessness of addiction to heroin. There is a difference.

Perfect day , According to Lou Reed, is not about drugs. A lot of his songs were but this isn't. Get fact ms from proper places not wiki.

A thousand nights, I've spent alone
    Solitaire to the bone
But I don't mind. I'm my own best friend
From the beginning, to the end
My life, my heart, black night, my star

    She's been gone since yesterday
    Oh I didn't care
    Never cared for yesterdays
    Fancies in the air

    She take you down easy
    Going down to her knees
    Going down to the devil
    Down down to ninety degrees
    Oh, she's blowing me crazy
    Till my ammunition is dry
Always be yourself, unless you can be Aaron Rodgers....Then always be Aaron Rodgers.

I'm still alive but I'm barely breathing
Just prayed to a God that I don't believe in
'Cause I got time while she got freedom
'Cause when a heart breaks, no, it don't break even

Welcome to your life, there's no turning back,
    Even while we sleep,
We will find you acting on your best behavior
Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world

Some years ago there was a documentary about Gerald Scarfe, the cartoonist who did a lot of the designs for The Wall album. The documentary featured him in a large, open-ceilinged "room", with white walls, in which he basically painted his life story as he talked about it, starting in one corner and moving round until he'd filled it.

The bit that I remember in this context was the drawing of himself as a kid with balloon hands, and he explained that when he had a fever as a child, that's what it felt like!

I don't think that was the only 'Wall' reference either, it seemed like he had a lot of input into the story of the album.

    At my cellar door
    I love you, baby,
    Can I have some more
    Ooh, ooh, the damage done.

    I hit the city and
    I lost my band
    I watched the needle
    Take another man
    Gone, gone, the damage done.

    (Yow! One, two)
Out on the town, looking for a woman
    Gonna give me good love
Anybody want to hang out with me?
    And maybe burn me up?
She was standing alone over by the jukebox
    Like she's something to sell
I said, Baby what's the going price?
She told me to go to hell

She unscrews the top of her new whisky bottle
And shuffles about in her candle-lit hovel
Like some kind of witch, with blue fingers in mittens
She smells like a cat and the neighbours she sickens.

Squeeze, Labelled With Love, heard on t'radio on t'way home.
