Anyone running -12 or -17 degree stems?? If so - can you show me your pics.

I'm thinking of changing my -6 degree for something lower - current stem already slammed and my new frame has a longer head-tube than my old one so I think more angle is the only way to get my position.

Thanks
Chris

  • Hi,

No pictures handy, as I am on my work computer. I have run various angles, over the years, including -17 on my old Pegoretti, to offset the long headtube.
I attach a link to a chart showing how much difference in height will result from differing lengths and angles of stem.

If the link doesn't work, then Google 'bicycle stem angle chart' and several will show up.
How much lower do you need to get your bars?
Is yours an integrated headset? (If not, some headsets have lower stack height than others).

    Good luck,

    David

  • Thanks - looks like a -12 will do it.

The 3T ARX Team stem is pretty good and may be worth a try. Like most stems though, I wouldn't pay too much as they all seem to do the same job...but the expensive ones just have more worthless words written on the side of the box...

I have a -17' stem on my Merida Reacto. I did have it with no spacers under the stem, but after a bit of a lay off, have added one for a wee bit of comfort.

I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

I run a -17 so it aligns with my level top tube (73 degree head tube angle). That is how all bikes used to be!

Pro and Thomson have -10 stems.

I'm trying to do the same.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a cheap (not worried about weight) 120mm stem which has a -17 degree angle?
I've Googled these words, or variations of them, but the resulting links always seem to take me to products which in no way match this description.

I'm running a -20 degree stem on my winter bike to try and compensate for the ridiculously tall head tube. If you can cope with the extra 3 degrees then it's a Deda Zero 100 Team, not too expensive and comes in 120mm

Thanks Styxd and Pirnie. Both very helpful suggestions — and that's what I like about this forum :D
  • I've been using a Specialized Comp Multi stem, not sure if it's considered cheap or not.
