THREE "MURS" IN 58 KM… A ROLLERCOASTER TO HUY
The final climb of the Mur de Huy always offers an intense showdown on its extra-steep slopes. But how many riders will still be in contention when tackling the prestigious 1.3 km climb? The changes introduced in this year's finale could smash some riders' hope earlier, as explained by Jean-Michel Monin, in charge of the route: "Actually, the final loop is still the same but we'll do it twice. The introductory part will be flatter, but then we have nine climbs in the last 75 kilometres… and we go up the Mur de Huy three times within 58 kilometres. That means it will be harder to control the race on this loop with three climbs, including the côte de Cherave and the côte d'Ereffe. It will be necessary to ride at the front, even more than usual, in order to avoid being trapped behind a split."
