Hi all, currently have a 29er XC bike, looking for a trail bike for places like Swinley, Surrey Hills and Afan. I don't do Enduro and will never be massively into jumps.
So what I want is:
Something that rides like a Whyte T130 but less common.
Has Pike forks as they are supposed to have great small bump capability and deal with trail chatter.
Around £2500
Not a Canyon
Have settled on a Commencal Meta 4.2 Trail Essential but before I pull the trigger has anyone ridden one or got any info that may be helpful?
Cheers
Jay

A Bird Aeris 145 with the same parts would come in at the same price, plus you would have a better selection of build.
I have had a Meta for a few years with 140 rear and 150 forks and it has been about right as a just about handles anything you are likely to ride.
But if I were buying now it would be the Bird.
Plus I noticed that the meta tl has a max recommended tyre size of 2.3.Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"0 -
Cheers, I've got a 120 Aeris on demo next month which is what Bird recommend but I have a 110mm travel bike at the moment and I smash right through the travel on that at Swinley. Struggling through find any proper reviews of the Bird though, most are from their customers.0

Where did you hear that? Having a read online people are using bigger tyres with no issues?? 2.5/2.60 -
Commencal following ETRTO rules which they signed up to for the rims they fit, max 57mm tyre. I put it up because though you can fit bigger tyres, if try to claim on warranty and you return the bike with a bigger set of boots you may not be covered, and it's on their web site.
