Hello, please forgive a roadie venturing into the muddy section of the forums
My father in law has just told me he owns the above bike and is passing it on to me. Apparently he bought it almost 20 years ago but never really rode it, with what little he did being on roads, not mud. It's been sat in storage ever since so as far as I know is in "as new" condition. (Well, as good as could be expected for not moving for such a long time)
Being used to drop handlebars I have no idea what to do with it - I'm guessing MTB tech has come on somewhat since 1998, so is it worth anything now? Is it worth trying to upgrade bits on it as a project? Just using it as a pub bike?
Any advice/thoughts/knowledge welcome

Not bad BITD but the suspension is a bit rubbish and it's heavy.
Elastomers are probably stuffed in the forks, (RST something or other) but they are pretty simple to take apart.
I seem to remember the shock is a funny size, so hopefully that still works.I don't do smileys.
