Any riders in N.Staffs / S. Cheshire?

Hi,
Just interested to know if there are any fellow riders from N. Staffs or S. Cheshire on this forum? If so, have you got any specific routes that you follow / recommend?
Today I thought I would have a bash at Station Road up to Mow Cop. All was going fine until I hit the 25% incline and well I had to bail at about a 1/4 of the way up. I was gutted as continued to ride all the rest of the climb, however that little stint just felt like it was too much for the legs.
Has anyone actually managed this climb (clearly people will have) If so are there specific strategies to adopt on climbs like this?
