I'm after new brake set which will be replacing current avid elixir 1, I'm sure most would point to the Shimano deore 615 but also found Shimano deore 506 is there much difference between them or just the servo wave, also looking at 2nd hand market for bargins

You could also look at SLX as even better than deore and not that dear If you shop around.

SLX or XT for me make no sense as I wouldn't use the free tool adjustment or free stroke adjust what ever they call it, I like to fit/adjust and forget just as longest I can stop not like the other day with my avids  , do 615 also have wider pads? I know you can fit fin pads to them but not sure if there std pads are bit wider compare to early models.

I went from elixir 1 to m785 xt disc brakes. The difference was massive, much more power, way better control and no more gobbling turkey noise from the brakes. Elixir 1 brakes are a nightmare and even after constant adjustment very poor.

Get the proper 615 deore brakes so you can just fit and forget. My wife has slx brakes which work very well with next to no maintenance.

Is there somewhere cheaper then CRC at the moment for the 615 model @ £46.49 each?

    They should come with pads.
When you need to replace the pads just look on Superstar or Uberbikes and get whichever you fancy.
