Me and my fella are thinking of buying bikes mainly for riding them in the woods. Our budget is not big so thinking of up to £300. We are trying to decide between Btwin Rockrider 520 and Carrera Vengeance. Looked at used ones sadly nothing good comes up in our area. which one of the two you recon would be better choice for us ? or any other suggestions under our price range?

Rockrider 520

Carrera Vengeance

P.S. one of the bikes will have to carry child seat so ability to attach it to the bike is high on priority list as well :)

Where abouts are you? I have a Calibre Two.two that I'm potentially looking to sell.

Would be well under your budget, so could mean you have slightly more to spend on the other bike.

We are in south east London . se9 to be precise, but as we don't own a car it pretty much limits the area we are able to pick anything up.
£300 is the top of out budget as original was £50 less. Those two for 350 looking good, but can't possible stretch that much at the moment.

I'm not a million miles from you. If you were interested let me know, I'm sure we could meet up somewhere. Not 100% on selling as I don't have a new bike just yet. I'll message you on here.

I wouldn't touch that Scott, big brand names are always going to offer lower spec at your price range compare to likes of decathlon ect., you should have rear cassette and disk brakes on bike at £300 not this old school freewheel and v brakes, that Cloud Butler you link looks good to me but in your link they only have 19 and 21 inch frames.

Rockrider 520 is not bad for what they asking is just basic but at your price range they all will be the same sort of spec.

10% discount with British Cycling membership, plus you might be able to buy vouchers with a ~10% discount via your employer.

So potentially ~£543 for the two.

Or go crazy and buy two of the Laura Trott bikes, potentially £567 and get a blokes saddle for one, the spec is amazing for that price!

I'm battling with my local Halfords as we speak about using discounted vouchers with the 10% discount. Manager claiming they can't put through two discounts on one transaction. He says the 'system' will know they are discounted vouchers. He's gone away to check what he can do. Makes no sense to me.

Manager is talking rubbish, IMO. I'm not aware of anything in the T&Cs that says you cannot use BC discount and then pay for an item with vouchers.

How much you paid for those vouchers is between you and your bank, not the store manager.

Spoken to their customer services now and they initially said it was fine. Then they phoned back to say it wasn't. This is the line in the small print causing the issue.

"May not be used in conjunction with any other voucher."

A bit vague, possibly. Is a load of bollocks if you ask me. I'll wait until they have a sale on and get it for even less. I can't afford the risk now. Once I've bought £1200 of vouchers I'm stuck with them! Seriously sucks.

I was thinking about Laura Trott bike. The only problem I see is i'm 5'3" ish so would need size S frame which is out of stock. There is M size to consider, but would it be comfortable ? I have longer hands but not sure if it would help at all (propper newbie here) .
We were thinking to try it but none of the stores around me have it in stock.
And how does that bc discount work ? Thank you

Just sign up online. Give it a google. £20 a year and you get 10% off in Halfords. As for my bike, it is now sold subject to collection. Hope you get what you're looking for.

    Thank you jamsky.
Ordered Laura Trott one just my guys bike left. Can't decide between these two as not much info on forks but i suspect both more or less the same. Which one you would choose Carrera Vulcan ( yup we increased the amount):
    http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/m ... ntain-bike
    Or above mentioned rr540 https://www.decathlon.co.uk/275-rockrid ... 79537.html

Just go for another Trott, swap seat and replace decals, none of them touching that Laura Trott spec at that price.

Hi excuse me stepping into your thread.

Jamski, I may be interested in the Calibre 2 2, what is the frame size, condition and asking price please?

    Thanks.
