Replacing front wheel rim

I replaced the Archetype rim and reused the Miche hub, Sapim Laser spokes and brass nipples.

I oiled the spokes and rim and screwed the nipples on and off prior to building.

I still had difficulty getting the tension right as the nipples would hold onto the spoke and then suddenly release with cracking sound.

Would replacing the nipples of helped?

The wheel is OK now - just wondering for next time.

I would always replace the nipples. Lasers are also a pain because they wind up more easily than other round spokes.

Indeed, sounds like spoke wind up to me as well. It sounds like the nipple threads were poor (damaged, corroded or just cruddy) as I've never had wind up to that extent on a build with new spokes and parts oiled
