New bike required real soon!

The plan was to buy a new bike this year, but a chain stay snapped on my on one codeine last month, so the need has been accelerated somewhat.

Options so far are below. I have been looking at a lot of bikes, but chaining my mind so bloody often it's unreal! Looked at canyon strive but decided against it as I had a canyon previously. Also been looking at the YT pro race versions too, now those I do like......

Got about £3500 to spend (could possibly raise price a little) and looking for a decent travel (140 - 160mm) full suss to play with in places like hamsterley and Glentress. Not decided about wheel size yet either, that's really confusing me! Do I go plus, 29 or 27.5!!!! My codeine was a 29er and I did like it, but I'm thinking I'd like to try something different? I'm at me wits end! Thought bike shopping was meant to be fun man! :?

Suppose I'm just looking for more options!

Radon Swoop, Bird Aeris 145, Whyte G160, Santa Cruz Bronson alloy

Radon Swoop just won 2017 bike of the year so worth a look
  • Cheers!

I'll check them out, except the Santa Cruz. As much as I love the look of them, and everyone says they are superb to ride, I can't justify the cost for the spec you get. With my budget it's either alloy half decent spec or carbon poor spec.

Bit crap when you consider what you get for for your cash with YT, canyon etc.....

I'd love one, but think I'd end up single rather quick if I bought the Santa Cruz I wanted with a good parts list!!! :(
  • I was in the same boat as you mate, didn't know which one to go for but since I have a bird zero and I like the way you can pick and chose your specs to suit your budget I went for the aeris 145, full xt group set, 150 rcts pikes and upgraded shock and the wheel set. In total it's cost £2600. Now you look at bikes in that price range there components aren't no way near a good as you get with the aeris.

Just got to wait another 3 weeks to get it but from the reviews I have read it's going to be amazing.

    Hope that helps.

Saw the new Aeris and Swinley yesterday, seriously nice bit of kit
  • Been looking at the bird aeries, the 145 looks mint and the quality of the spec you can is brilliant! Defo going on the list.

The radon swoop looks awesome too, never heard of them but doing a bit of research and there's not one bad word about them. Great value too.

Im away working at the minute and want to try and get something ordered before I get back, so I've given myself 5 days then I've got to get something sorted!

AirDrop edit also worth a look, built in Sheffield (or designed and assembled in Sheffield)

I know you said you didn't want a Canyon but they have just got 5 stars on Bikeradar and possibly going to win trail bike if the year
  • Been checking out canyon again, I do like them, and every review is raving about them. So going to keep options open about them. Not sure wether strive or spectral, also a bit put off by lack of options. Rockshox suspension with sram 1x or fox performance with 2x at a decent price difference of push my limit a bit to get sram eagle with better rockshox spec??

I do like the look of the airdrop, never seen them before either and look great, solid bikes and the parts lists are looking good too.
    Definitely another to think about.

Also just looking at the commencal, the am 4.2 and the tr 4.2. They both look great, and wouldn't have to go mental to get eagle drivetrain!!
  • Looks like choice could be taken out of my hands due to availability.

Bird 145 which I really fancied, not until end of June.

    YT is the same.

    AirDrop would be July.

    Orbea, in stock.

    Bugger!!!!

Canyon? Trek Remedy? Specialized Stunt-jumper? Whyte G160?

There might be a reason why the Orbea is in stock.
  • Not buying specialised or trek just due to the fact they've slapped another £300 on bikes at my price range in U.K. Since reslease. Why can't massive outfits like those not soak up the extra costs like YT said they'll do due to the pound price???

Been looking at canyon, still not sure, I know they get awesome reviews but something holding me back with them.

I did think the same thing about the orbea, but reading reviews and doing the usual research sounds like they are really solid bike.

And whyte, personally I just don't think they look right!! Just me though.
