Advice about new bike

Hi,

I am trying to convince the wife that after having my bike for about 12 years now, it is now time for a new bike. Unfortunately my wife thinks that £500 would get you an expensive bike  .

My general route is 10 miles about 8.5 of it is single track, with about 300-400ft of climbs. I have also ridden at Swinley a few times. I have been looking at full suspension bikes around the £1500 price range and I saw this https://www.merlincycles.com/steppenwol ... oCtt_w_wcB Would this bike be okay? I have not heard of Steppenwolf as a bike manufacturer before, and I am concerned that A) It's a 26" wheeler and B) The original price was inflated and the savings aren't real.

I personally like the idea of having a "rare" bike, but would I be better served getting a Boardman Pro at £1500 http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/m ... nsion-27-5 ? Or the team http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/m ... nsion-27-5 Or should I wait and see if I can get a Beastnut http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/calibre-bea ... ke-p413298 Or wait and see what the new Calibre Bossnut is like?

Ideally the bike would be brought with intrest free credit and unfortunately it would be pretty impossible to use the cycle to work scheme (as I am home based and work all over the country). Any advice would be gratefully received.

Cheers

If your budget is £1500 tops the Boardman FS Pro can't be beaten. The Beastnut is very close, but I think the fork and groupset are slightly higher on the Boardman. With various discounts and offers you can easily get the Boardman nearer to £1200, which really is a bargain. British cyclone membership gets you 10% off and you can buy gift vouchers with an 8% discount. Although if you want to do interest free the vouchers won't work for you. Just wait for a sale if you can. :)

For that budget I'd be looking at a good discounted bike from somewhere like Paul's Cycles.
Giant Anthem 2 2016 for £1249 or if you want more travel the Trance 2 2016 is £1499.

I'd still go for the Boardman. The Trance 2 is a good buy though.

With British cycling discount and buying gift vouchers (google halford gift voucher discount) you can get it down to nearly that already. I'm hoping there's a sale over Easter too!
