Why don't you have a think about why they test these things on rats.

As part of a tiered approach to toxicological testing? Because regulatory authorities around the globe compel them to? Because conducting a chronic feeding study on inbred laboratory mammals is almost guaranteed to elicit some kind of effect which allows publication without adequate peer review and raise the profile of your laboratory and attract further funding? Who knows.

+1 with the natural fruit juice and a pinch of salt. Best option out there IMO.
