I have a specialized demo 8 2017 and need a new wheelset, the rear wheel has to be 135mmx12mm with sram xd hub and the front needs to be 20mm. does anybody have some recommendations, I don't really want to go to the custom wheel route.

PDPB30 30% off superstar when you spend £75 or more

switch hubs with DT FR570 rims and spaim DB spokes £340 then 30% off

the question is why a re specialised always coming up with new axle standards that not many support. I think the DT Swiss is your best option as they make 135x12mm end caps for the wheels with twin ratchet freehub mechanisms.

Hope also do wheels for this or at least there wheels can be converted.

Not many others to choose from.

12x135 isn't a new standard. wheels that convert to 12x142 will probably convert to 12x135. wheels on both my bikes convert to 12x135 as do my son's.
  • can someone help me out and send me a link to a hope rear wheel on tredz, that will fit

If it has to be Tredz, why not just phone them and ask?

I know it is not a new standard just one that is not common so spec decide it is a good idea to use a standard few use. Thats my gripe. Spec keep on doing this. What wrong with 142x12mm and falling in line behind that.

Novatec also do the D882 hub which can convert to 135x12mm but getting hold of the bits is the problem. The u.k importer does not bring them in so it is a foreign purchase.

I've had superstar wheels before and not had a good experience with them.

I have their carbon wheels on my Kona and they're brilliant. Ride great and not a single issue.

exactly my point without an importer bringing the bits in you are relying on random ebay suppliers or other who will mostly be outside the uk. this is not an issue per se but was the point i was making.

I am not sure what spares availability would be like from superstar but if they are anything like the novatec importer (extra UK, they sell the wheels but not any of the spares). Just checked, superstar dont have the freehub for the switch/D882 hub. The freehub for that is the type B but on the D882 hub it is steel. The alloy versions are commonly available in the UK but not the freehub the hub actually comes with. The steel bodies, end caps/axles will be available on ebay from taiwan which is fine if you plan ahead.

I get calls about things like this all the time. Today a chap needed end caps for a bitex hub but since no one in the uk brings in spares that i know of he had to buy a whole hub. This is why DT Swiss or hope are better options as spares are available although with dt swiss stock at madison is an issue at present.

I got my novatec hubs from an ebay seller in Poland. It took 3 days, getting spares is not an issue even if its an ebay seller.

Isnt the demo 8 a downhill bike, I'd thought it would run a 150x12 axle?
