Evening guys.

I'm trying to remove the freehub body on my giant defy. cassette off, axle out, no problems at all.

10mm hex key just spins and doesn't bite to unlock the freehub body!

Any advice?

Cheers

Mike

You may need to stick a hex key in the other end of the axle to stop it rotating, and watch out for left or right hand threads...

  • Sorry it's as if a 10mm is too small, just spins completely inside the hub

Probably need a 12mm allen key, the hub on my artemis wheel is the same, but i only have a 10mm at the mo and no good. Can pick one up cheap enough but i have stuck another set of wheel on for now...
My winter bike is exactly the same as my summer bike,,, but dirty...

You should be able to ascertain the size by using a combination of smaller hex keys (if 4 & 8 "fit" when slid in together (so there's a pair of faces 12mm apart...)) or take the wheel to the emporium of your choice and poke keys in until you find the one that fits...

Not sure if this helps, but a few years ago I removed the freehub from a Formula rear hub and it required an 11mm Allen key. I think 7/16" AF is pretty close to 11mm.
  • I've just noticed it has a two notch locking ring. So need to get the adapter bought. More money!
