Afternoon all,

I'm after a lower gear on my commuter for the last half a mile up to my house was running 34-28 bottom gear with a short cage tiagra 4600 mech.

The 12/30 cassette is discontinued by the looks of it, and the max capacity of my mech is 30 - I'm trying an 11/32 cassette at the moment but the mech can't take up all the slack.

Medium cage ones don't seem to be available any more, is there any other mechs that would work? Anyone tried a 4700 mech with the 4600 shifters?

I need new jockey wheels so I might as well just get a new mech if I can get something that will swap straight in.

Think you would be OK with a 5700 GS rear mech and your 4600 shifters. (Just checked and they are OK together - p20 out of 32 in this pdf)

A quick trawl indicates that they are a bit thin on the ground - tho I think CRC have them in stock

The above suggestion is sound, but you can also use a 9 speed rear derailleur - these have the same shift ratio as pre-4700 ten speed.

You can also use 9 speed MTB derailleurs if you want to put an even bigger cassette on - just be aware that they don't all have barrel (tension) adjusters, if you need one make sure you order one that has one.
