Is the BMC GF01 frame enough of an upgrade over the Giant Advanced 2 to warrant the $500 price difference?
I'm upgrading from a cheap 12 year old aluminum frame with 9 speed 105/Tiagra components, so I'm sure either bike will feel amazing in comparison. Both bikes are shimano 105.
The major differences between the BMC and the Giant are:
- Post mount hydro brakes on BMC (Shimano BR-R785), flat mount in Giant (Shimano RS505)
- Better rotors on BMC (Shimano SM-RT81-SS), Giant (Shimano RS505)
- Quick release on BMC, thru-axle on Giant
- Better shifters on BMC (Shimano ST-RS685), Giant (Shimano RS505)
- BMC has better brake routing but shift cables are external, but is ready for Di2 with all internal routing, Giant has all internal routing except for front brake.
- BMC price 2450(USD), Giant 1950(USD)
The main thing holding be back from the BMC is the older style post mount brakes. Is this something to be concerned about? Another option would be the Giant Defy Advanced 1 which has Ultegra derailleurs and crank for 2250(USD).
Thanks for any advice,
Jason
