Hi, I am hoping to do a 4-day, 240 mile (~60 mile per day) loop starting and ending in Montpellier sometime in April. Can anybody recommend any particular routes or directions? Looking for something simple and nothing major in terms of hills. Cheers

I've toured extensively in this area with camping gear after catching the Bike Express down there.

The best riding is north west of Montpellier but it's not really easy going. Head to St Guilhem-le-Desert and take meandering tiny roads to the truly spectacular Cirque de Navacelles. You could continue north from there through the Cevennes mountains to Florac or go west along the wonderful Dourbie and Jonte gorges to Millau before heading back to Montpellier. Low gears are recommended for this region. Tough riding in places but definitely worth it.

An easier loop from Montpellier is to ride north east via the Pont du Gard Roman aqueduct and the nice town of Uzes to the Gorges de L'Ardeche. It's a tough ride along the gorge corniche and there are a lot of tourist coaches and motorbikes but the views are great.

For easy riding you can stick to the coastal strip, west to Sete and Agde, or east to Aigues-Mortes, Stes-Maries-de-la-Mer and the Camargue.
