Can anyone help me with the size / spec etc for the bearings in the headset of my Cannondale Trail 1. 2016 vintage. I have only had the bike a couple of months but the steering has seized up a couple of times between rides. Took the headset apart today and the bearings were red rusty. All the seats etc seem fine so I don't want to replace the complete headset, just the bearings.

If it has caged bearings replace the headset with a decent one. It will save you pain in the long term.

They are caged bearings. However, I believe the bearings are semi integrated. i.e. the cups are built into the frame so I am not sure that I can replace the headset with something different. I guess the best answer may be to throw away the cages and simply replace them with ball bearings without cage.
