I fancy doing some cycling in the hills around LA somewhere. Does anyone have any recommendations as to a good place to base myself, and cheap accommodation in that area?

Thanks.

Compton will be cheap and help with your sprint training.

Would I need to lock my bike up there, do you think?

If you're over there, another place you might want to consider riding near is Santa Barbara. I didn't ride there, but it looked particularly good around the hills behind SB. They seem to take their riding seriously. I visited a couple of bike shops there which IIRC did some decent rentals. There's also a great coffee shop called Handlebar, run by some former pro cyclists, so it's a decent place to meet other riders.

We stayed in Air bnb in SB which was ok value, but I wouldn't say cheap. In LA we were in a hotel. The roads around LA are a bit mental, you want to be sure you know where you're riding - you're not going to want to find yourself on the wrong road around there.

Thanks. I have been looking at SB, the only thing which puts me off slightly is the costs around there - being very affluent and all that. I'll take a look at Air BNB too. I know deep down California isn't going to be cheap.
