tyre cut

rule of thumb with cuts is...
if the tyre bulges when inflated to correct riding pressure, the carcass is damaged enough to weaken it, you may be able to ride it safely by installing a tyre 'boot', personally i tend bin a tyre if it's deformed by a cut
if it's not really bulging, but the inner tube is pushing through the hole, you need to put a patch or tyre boot in otherwise even if the tube doesn't actually pop immediately, over time it'll wear on the edges of the cut and failmy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -

Continue GP 4000s get good reviews, Mich Pro Race 3 (not 4s, they fall apart), and at the budget end of the scale, I used Vittoria Rubinho slicks at about a fiver each for years all round and found them to be utterly bombproof.
