Sizing - Vermarc v Nalini

I'm looking at a pair of Vermarc shorts but the website warns about them being "typical" Italian sizing i.e. on the neat side. The only Italian shorts I have are Nalini which are perfect in large. Does anyone have shorts by both manufacturers that could give a size comparison please. I know I could order a pair in each size and return them but would rather avoid that hassle if anyone could advise please.
