Tubeless tyres have deflated by themselves

Three days after riding a criterium at the weekend I noticed both my tubeless tyres were completely flat. I checked for punctures of course but there isn't anything in the tyres, that I can see anyway, although I’ve not taken the tyres off yet cos that’s a pain in the ar**.
I know they used to lose probably about 20 pounds pressure over a week. I noticed a very tiny leak around the valves, but didn't really concern me as I'd pump them up every week like I would for normal tyres and inner tubes.
I assume this, and maybe other small leaks, got to the stage where the seal around both beads simply gave way and both deflated quickly.
Anyone had the same issue?
I like the ride and potential puncture resistance of tubeless but this, along with getting them on and off, and pumping them up, is beginning to make me have second thoughts to whether I'd continue with them in the future.

When the rim tape has failed0

They didn't leak round the valves (99% of the time) they leak past defective rim tape and then out of the rim at the valves (the nipples sealing too well)Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0
