Apologies if in the wrong forum, but here goes.

Garmin 520 done an update earlier today.
Went on a ride and when i returned went to upload to strava via Garmin Connect and when I scroll down through the screen,
the upload ride tag doesn't come up. I just get Map > Elevation >Laps > Create Course
Phone is still paired and bluetooth on both units is on.
Any ideas folks,
many thanks.

I use garmin connect on an iphone 4s with my 520, and after a ride i just save it, turn the garmin off, close all apps on the phone and turn on bluetooth then open garmin cnnect, and turn the 520 back on.
It then syncs and loads the ride to garmin connect, which is connected to my strava and auto uploads.

    If that makes sense!
Granted i have not updated the 520 since i bought it last may.
My winter bike is exactly the same as my summer bike,,, but dirty...

Thats how I usually do it but it has been a bitch since the garmin updated earlier.
Finally managed to get it sorted by uninstalling Garmin Connect from my Samsung and then disconnecting and re-pairing the 520 with the smartphone.
Guess when people say don't update Garmins they say it for good reason :)
    Many thanks for your reply.

I just updated my 520 and it went nuts.

Wouldn't respond at all. Thought it was completely dead. Only by restarting it about 100 times pressing every button imagineable did I bring it back to life. But all my data, including my page setups was lost.

I doubt Garmin really care, dodgy updates are the norm across the industry these days.....

It pays to keep an eye on the amount of free space on a 520 before applying a full update firmware code update.
I deleted a fair number of activity files , giving about 47mb free space... Version 11 went on nicely just.
I learnt my lesson going from 8 to 9 , when it 'locked ' up for an hour.. faffin about with it.
The updates are not dodgy in as much as any firmware upgrade from any tech company can be flawed.. but that's never going to change.. ow what can 11 do that 10 cannot? sod all probably.

    Look on the bright side;

I just went out for a 38km ride with 468m of climbing, and got All Time Best Trophies from Garmin!!

Took me about an hour to set up my 3 data screens from scratch, and then repair (re-pair geddit?!) all my sensors, Bluetooth the phone, etc.etc.

Can I invoice this hour at 15 Euros + VAT to Garmin? (I'm cheap)

    Strava workaround.
Un star your segments with 520 connected via USB
    Synch with Garmin Express

In Garmin Connect switch to Garmin Segments
Have a browse see how useless they are compared to Strava where all your meaningful ride data exists.

Check in 520 file structure to see if the Segments folder is now empty.

If it is then re connect with USB if yu have tested with it disconnected.

In Connect switch to using Strava segments again.
    Re star a test segment

Check in 520 file structure New Files flder to see if anything there

Hopefully a couple of fit files ready to install.

Disconnect USB and re boot the 520... check in Training/Segments
A test segment should be back again.

    Reconnect

    - Close all apps on your phone then try and re-open Garmin connect.
    - Insure you get good 3G or Wifi on your phone. Turn off Wifi if it's a weak signal and just use 3G.
    - If all else fails you can still upload rides using any USB cable to plug the 520 into your laptop and using Garmin Express. For some reason, I could only sync with a USB cable after todays ride.

Ive also a Garmin Forerunner watch that I use for running. Sometimes if an activity won't sync, I just start another activity from where I am sat only for 3 or 4 seconds, then save it and then try the sync again. This forces it to sync, almost like the first activity was slight corrupted and wasn't seen by Garmin Express to start with, until another activity was on the device and then it noticed the new activities.

I do wonder if Garmins software team do badly on purpose, I suppose it keeps them in a job writing the fixes. If the software was right first time around they wouldn't be needed again.

Nearly every big update has done absolutely nothing to improve my 520. However occasionally I lose settings. I recently uninstalled Garmin Express from my PC.

    Step one: Ride
Step two: Upload ride from 520 using a computer direct to Strava

Ignore all updates and Garmin Express.
