A good reason to not buy Pro-Lite

Speaking to Cycling Weekly, team rider Lloyd Chapman said that one of the team’s new signings, Matthew Webster, got separated from the group at a junction and was chasing to catch up when a car pulled out in front of him before slamming on the break, nearly causing Webster to crash.

Chapman continued: “This driver, without being provoked, caught up with the group and then started hurling verbal abuse and aggressively gesturing at the team.

“He then proceeded to overtake the bunch and swerved into one of our riders (Lawrence Carpenter) who got clipped by the car and narrowly avoided coming down. After this, the driver then swerved towards another rider at the front of the group (Will Fox).”

The riders said that the car was bearing a number of stickers with the logo of the Pro-Lite wheel brand, with a number of riders identifying the driver as Steve Fenton, the co-owner of the Taiwanese company.

Two things come to mind - firstly, what an utter lunatic Steve Fenton must be (if it was him) - and secondly, Cycling 'Weakly' reporter Henry Robertshaw cannot spell 'brake' - and neither can his sub-editor.
  • Another good reason would be that the Revo A21 formerly £325 at Wiggle, or £160 if you got them price matched, are now an eye watering £450. Simply not worth it at that price.

Mind, my £200 Fulcrum 5Db are now £300.........

At this rate Hunt Wheels will be the logical and budget choice.

Definitely not worth 450 given the tight tyre fitting issues as well. I like the Revo's, but always have a hint of trepidation when heading out, in case of fairy visits....

Was concerned to read the story above though. Had my eye on some PL Bortolas, but think I'll pass on them now...
Titus Silk Road Ti rigid 29er - Scott Solace 10 disc - Kinesis Crosslight Pro6 disc - Scott CR1 SL - Pinnacle Arkose X 650b - Pinnacle Arkose singlespeed - Specialized Singlecross...& an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4 string...

Perhaps experiencing some kind of flashback to the time he was hit by a car and it ended his cycling career?

Prices are mad again I saw the Revo price and laughed out loud. At this rate I'll need a cheaper hobby before long.

oh crap ..... I have Pro-lites on my Boardman, I am now going to be 100% hated

cycling - hated by drivers and pedestrians
Boardman - hated by bike snobs
Flat bar - hated by bike snobs
wearing fluorescent commuter jacket - hated by bike snobs
PRo-lite wheels - hated by wheel snobs and NOW everyone else that rides.

really this whole bike thing has been a massive disappointment to me ... I should have followed the fold, and worn womens tights, bought a black bike with black graphics and black groupset with black chain and black detailing and fitted in .. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
  • LOL, reminds me of the time few years back when everyone was up-in-arms about Specialized "bullying", that other conflict of interest outfit who were using the "Roubaix", name. Everyone screaming for a Specialized boycott!

Hit Specialized really hard that little flash-mob-cyber-tantrum. Not....

I may test the market with mine shortly, local ad. May swap to Hunt which seem to be easier to get tyres on.

Just out of interest why are hunt seen as a better option than the custom hand built route. Only benefit I see is a few grams in weight for the price point.
  • At that price point I don't believe there's much difference. Hunt are pretty much established rims, hubs, normal spokes etc. So it's just all about whose putting them together, which is still all by hand. Hard to beat the £349(?) X Hunts for weight and spec.
