Trailer to carry bikes
So, as the family gets older and bigger, I`m finding the 4 bike rack on our camper van and the car isn't big enough.
Has anyone got / made a trailer to carry more bikes. If so can you share some pics/ plans or where to source.
Ideally for our summer holidays we would be taking 5 adult bikes and 2 20" kids bikes but it won't be long before the twins upgrade.
Adult bikes are a mix of road and mtb
I don't really want bikes inside the campervan and.on the roof isn't an option hence the trailer idea.

Ready made are expensive.

I would also suggest home remedies would also also cost. So @ £150 for a cheap small trailer and them £30-£50 for each bike mount. If you went proper old school and have access to metal and weldng equipment a bodge could come out cheaper but start would still be a cheap Erde trailer or similar.0 -
Cheers for that link, gives some good ideas.
I think the trick is making it adjustable without too much complexity.
I have an old trailer in the garden, will take a look at how adaptable it will be.
Also need to make sure the good bikes dont rub which is also a worry.0 -
If it was me, since like you I have a small trailer I would strip the sides off and bolt roof bar type rails and clamps, alternate them to that you get room between handlebars. There are front fork holders but you still have the issue of the front wheel going somewhere.

Most trailers are also longer than they are wide so think about putting the bikes left to right not front to rear for more space. So like this: (you could just hire this one)

Cheers guys, ive actually bought a new trailer, just need to pick it up. Plan is to get some front fork bike racks and mount bikes sideways. Will post up some pics when it all comes together0
