First post and yes it's another 'what bike question'...

Not ridden for over 30 years and just over 60 now and totally unfit so decided I need to do some walking and riding again. Riding is going to be local bridleway type paths, forest tracks (maybe) and the south downs when we move there. Been reading a lot here and thought I'd start with some of the often recommended good value hardtails at around £400.
Tried (currently all at £400):

Halfords for the Laura Trott MTB http://www.halfords.com/cycling/bikes/mountain-bikes/laura-trott-mtb-1-womens-moutain-bike but decided I'm not macho enough to ride with her signature on the down tube and too much hassle to hide or remove it.

Next Decathlon and found the Rockrider 580 https://www.decathlon.co.uk/rockrider-580-mountain-bike-275-id_8336093.html on offer which I really like and felt totally at home on, in fact much more so than on my old 1960's 'racer'.

I was planning to try the Go Outdoors Calibre two.two http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/calibre-two-two-v2-mountain-bike-p383858 next but as the closest store is 100 mile round trip and may have to travel a lot more to find one, I'm inclined to just go with the Decathlon. It seems very good value so can someone just say "yes/good bike/can't go far wrong with it/get it" or something similar?
Thanks

The Rockrider is a very good bike, especially at £400, and possibly better suited for your stated usage than the Trott, the gearing is better on the RR, although for more technical trail use I think the Trott would be the better bike.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
