I need some better brakes for my LeMond Filmore and they need to be 47-57mm reach. I've found these from Condor:

Anyone ever used them or similar Condor stuff? I don't really want to pay Paul/TRP prices if I don't have to and it's a fixed wheel so my legs do some of the work too. These are the TRPs which is about as high as I'd want to go:

If they are really worth the extra I'll bite the bullet and get them. Anyone have any other options/advice?

I have the TRP's which are excellent, I wanted black and there wasn't much of a choice at the time, for half the cost I would have gone for the Condor's if they had existed, I doubt they'll be bad...........

How excellent? I ride my fixed wheel for sportives and I'm doing the Etape Du Dales on it so if we are talking top-end short reach caliper quality I might just bite the bullet and go for them.

I've looked around a lot and the Condors don't look like rebadged Tektros/Miche etc. the calipers look different so I don't think I'd be paying extra for the name, but then I also have nothing to compare them to...

They're very good and the supplied pads are top notch too, difficult to compare against standard calipers as I only ride the TRP's in the wet and other callipers (Ultegra and Chorus) in the dry, however I would say that I've never felt that I needed better braking in the wet.

The Condor ones look like a re-badged Tektro caliper. Nothing wrong with that, they probably work fine. I have got he Shimano BR650, which are very decent. Silver only I think.

This does sound tempting, not sure it's an area I really want to scrimp on.

I thought they weren't but I found these

And I think you might be right. Thanks, that might actually help me find more applicable reviews.

Those Tektro R559s are even longer reach (53-73mm) than e.g. Shimano BR650. I do also have some of these for my old old road bike which allows me to use 700c wheels. They're well finished and seem to be good quality.
  • Thanks for the help all, considering the kind of riding I use the bike for I decided to bite the bullet and go for the TRPs. Hopefully I'll be happy when they arrive!
