A potential change in circumstance for the next 18+ years has me questioning the time allowed to ride my bikes.
Currently have 2, nice shiny carbon summer job and an alu disc clad commuter.
I commute 5 days a week and this won't change, however for the next few years I can't see me getting too many weekend pass' for 3 or 4 hours at a time.
So thinking about selling both and replacing with a nice do it all job. I've always been drawn to steel/ti so thinking about a shiny steel/ti, hyraulic disc with mudguards mounts. Something I can commute on day in day out but then be happy enough to ride on the odd time I have time for a blast up in northumberland.
Does it exist for about a grand?

I don't think you'll get Ti and hydraulics for a grand unless you go 2nd hand.
Equilibrium disc? Steel but not shiny if you meant it in the bare metal sense.
Kinesis 4S disc? Ditto and alu though.0 -
No, it doesn't. Pickenflick occasionally gets close, but no guards. My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

n+1 is useful .... cant you continue with your alu for commuting and every now and again on good days take the carbon in ?0
-
Sorry, by shiny I mean nice.
N+1 is useful, but think full carbon Supersix is overkill and wasted only being used for a few months of commuting a year.0 -
Supersix disc and keep the alu for commuting and bad days?My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

Raceblade pro xls are pretty good in the absence of mounts, though obviously not as good as full length ones. But I've not seen the Pickenflick reduced for ages. I bought mine in a 20/25% off all cross bikes deal about 14 months ago.
I use mine as you want to, 120 commuting miles a week, but it's plenty "nice" enough to take out when you get that elusive weekend pass. You can also keep a second set of wheels with knobblies on and take it on trails/gravel/towpaths etc with the kid/s, when they're big enough.0 -

That is better, although small only.
I'm not really looking at one off deals though as I won't be pulling the trigger for a little while, just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything blindingly obvious I hadn't though of.0 -
Steel is much easier to get with many more potential deals available. My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

It's above your budget when fully built admittedly, but Condor's Fratello Disc meets all your requirements otherwise.0

Apologies for the thread resurrection, but as I am in a similar boat (just bought Genesis Equilibrium disc frame), and was wondering if anyone knew the best full-length mudguards for disc frames? I was looking at SKS longboard, but a review on Evans website said they are not compatible.0

I've got SKS on my Equilibrium Disc. Can't remember which model, but I can check if it helps...Condor Super Acciaio, Record, Deda, Pacentis.
Curtis 853 Handbuilt MTB, XTR, DT Swiss and lots of Hope.
Genesis Datum Gravel Bike, Pacentis (again).
Genesis Equilibrium Disc, 105 & H-Plus-Son.

I've got SKS Blumels on the winter bike that I'm pretty happy with.0
