Hi all this is my first post here, I've had a hybrid bike for some years, now I've moved to the New Forest I'm injoying off road (trail) cycling more and more and my hybrid is just not cutting it anymore. I've been looking at the Giant Fathom 2.

Would this work for me or could I get something better for that price thanks Stephen.

It's not at all bad for the money, especially as it comes with a dropper post.
That said better value is available and you certainly don't need a dropper in the new forest!
I'd also suggest a 29er which would be the best wheel size for that sort of usage, the fall back bike would be the Voodoo Bizango from Halfords, it's a great bike and would be ideal for your use.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Hi, That fathom-2 has some great specs for the price, looking at it i guess you would have to be adding the cost of new peddles as well?
I have the Voodoo Bizango, and was lucky enough to grab one in January for just £500 (now £625) wondering how open to a deal Halfords would be if you pushed them? but i can tell you that as a 50 year old myself, I really do apreciate the Bizango's 29" wheels (after years of 26") I put Crank Bros 5050-3 peddles on (they are a great peddle) a Fabric scoop radius saddle, and Race face Half Nelson grips, hope to upgrade a few other bits as my budget allows.
You could also look at the Fathom 29ER 2 https://www.giant-bicycles.com/gb/fathom-29er-2 £7490 -
Hi, just wondering what you ended up with?0
