Have the new style SRAM Red 22 on order, however delivery seems to keep getting delayed. This has opened the door to a discounted DA 9100 group.

Anyone got first hand experience of the two and recommend one over the other?

I've got first hand experience of Red 22 and DA9000. They are both top group sets, it depends on your preferred option really, there is nothing to chose between them performance wise.

If I was being very picky I would say the Shim brakes are marginally better than Sram; the rear shifting is different but not better necessarily Shimano is a more engineered softer movement, Sram is a rifle bolt. Other than that it depends what you like, Red is lighter but I found Shimano a smidge quieter.
  • Like Stueys said, it's all done to personal preference.

I've used both and I love the mechanical SRAM Red as it really feels once you hit a new gear. Shimano is much smoother as in more quiet.

In this price bracket it all comes down to what you like most as they're both awesome.
