Found This in Wheel Rims

I noticed when I turned my wheels that I could hear something rattling around. I heard something shaking around in there, and I took of my tire and out came some stuff from within the rims, in the hollow part under the rim tape. It's brittle, and it looks exactly like bits of dry, curly, uncooked spaghetti. Is this something I should be worried about?

Thanks!

Got a pic? Could be shavings from when the spoke holes were drilled.

    Any loose spokes?

Could be part of the rim eyelets?

I've had an Open Pro eyelet break off.

Cook it in plenty of boiling salted water for 8 minutes or until al dente.
  • Nothing loose. These pieces don't seem to have any significant strength to them. The break as easy as uncooked spaghetti.

What wheel brand are they? Are they the new Campagnolo linguine?

They look like a perished elastic band to me.

It's an emergency supply of pasta just in case you bonk. In higher quality wheels you get Haribo or sport beans.
  • Carbon wheels?

That's the dead skin from carbon worms. They shed them after they have eaten resin.
  • Finally, a serious answer. I knew it was carbon worms.

I don't know what they are, but I fancy a bowl of carbonara for lunch.

that is either an old elastic band from where the innertube was tied together and the fitter didn't realise it was still stuck to the tube OR .... an exsessive amount of dried up rim glue

  • That's the weird thing... this stuff came from within the rims, below where the rim tape and inner tube are. In the hollow part of the v rim.

Is it from a carbon bike and have you been riding it in the rain?
  • Some carbon. No, no riding in the rain.

Are you sure the bike/component didn't get wet before you got it? Maybe worth a quick call to the store where you bought it to check.

Was the Campag factory making your wheels over their lunchtime? Mario and Luigi eating at their desks. Accidental lunch spillage landed in your rims?
