Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum so thought I better say hello.....Hello. I'm Karl, I live in Bristol, UK. I'm looking for some help regarding my bike. I've been given a frame by my bro-in-law, It's completely bare bar pedals, levers etc (all shimano deore lx) a club roost stem and some lightweight bars. The serial number brings up no results for the model or make but the front suspension has Trek USA on the rubber sleeves so I'm guessing that's the make. The problem I have is all the other parts! It's a 21.5 inch frame so id like some advice on what parts I should be looking for, I will be using my bike at work (I own a dog walking company so will use it on muddy tracks, forests etc) Any help is greatly appreciated. Karl

    Some pictures might help.

How much do you want to spend?

  • I'll add pics when I get home on the pc, how much to spend is always the ultimate question. As little as possible really so I'm hoping to pick up some bargains 2nd hand but will buy wheels, tyres, chain new. I've seen some magnesium wheels for sale for £100

No, mag wheels are a bad idea, unless you live in Essex and the bike is an XR3i.

You don't mention things like mechs, shifters etc. Without a lot more info it's impossible to say.

Nothing wrong with second hand parts like wheels etc. I've built up plenty of bikes with nothing new except cables.

  • I don't know if i should keep the front rings, derailleur and just replace the shifters as they have seen better days or start from scratch and replace the whole lot? Guessing the latter will become rather expensive. If i knew the model i would just replace like for like. This is alot more tricky than my bmx
