Putting the pieces together now... he enjoyed his year in New York, and there's a vacancy arisen running a few businesses over there now. Bit of a different industry, but the boss does sound like a nightmare.

Does the new role offer career advancement or simply monetary reward?

You have to ask yourself why the discrepancy in salary as the potential employer may have a high churn rate in that position, hence the remuneration.

Is the new boss a leader or manager and what potential is there for climbing the corporate ladder?

I'm not sure if its typo as the OP suggests a 1000km difference so does that mean a better quality of life outside work?

Qualify why the stress would be increased? This can impact massively on health if your not adept at handling pressure or stress?. Thats not derogatory as we all have different coping mechanisms which vary in their effectiveness.

Finally you don't sound like a avaricious git so whats turned your head apart from the cash which really doesnt matter in terms of happiness, health and overall well being of your soul.

he is either moving from the Lands End visitors centre to their counterpart at John O'Groats or he is not in the UK. Size of country/industry are also important when considering how to deal with it.
