Hello there,

I've bought a Boardman frame which I wanted to build into a basic MTB but I'm having issues fitting the headset.

I bought what I thought was an FSA Orbit but it turns out it's actually an "fsa the pig", going from the serial number on the box at least.

I've been unable to fit the fsa cups to the boardan frame as the fsa cup is "slightly" too big, about 1mm in fact, quite a lot I guess. 7Dxg1Ig.jpg

The boardman frame has a diameter of 44mm, measured from the inside where the bearing cups sit but also the rockshox tora 318 I have seem to have had the stem shortened down to 17cm from 20cm. ka2879v.jpg

Can I just buy a 44mm headset? It seems fsa do a "zero" or "low" stack headset so I can make full use of the steerer. As it is I only have about 5cm/2 inch of steerer to clamp with the stem.

I was looking at this one, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FSA-Semi-Integrated-44mm-Headset-MTB-Bicycle-Bike-Semi-Integrated-1-1-8/371748778412?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3D994634093589444da07848c868e3b672%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D221921595018 just something cheap, didn't want to spend £40 on a headset when the forks were only £30.

Any help would be appreciated.

Yup, you need a ZS44/Zero stack/Semi integrated (all the same thing) headset for the Boardman frame.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
