Hi, we are students from the University of Birmingham and now conducting a survey about cycling industry in the UK. We think you may be familiar with this area and your opinions will be really important for us. Would you take a little bit time to fill in this questionnaire for our survey? We appreciate your time a lot!

Not a bad survey compared to some of the tosh we see here on a weekly basis. Not perfect, but not bad. Done.

Young guys at University. Anything over 25 falls into the 'old' category.

  • Some pretty poor grammar, but I'm just pleased to be in an age range that starts at 25, rather than 45!

But we are still in the oldest group ;-).

Though I reckon 95% of the responses will be.
  • Did it yesterday, not a bad questionnaire but very road-centric to be honest

Thanks all of you for participation, sincerely.
the reason why we don't set many older age groups is that we believe all the cycle enthusiasts have young spirit :) .

Thank you for your opinion. May I ask which question(s) give you this impression? we'll try to improve. :)
  • Much better. The questionnaire has changed since I first did it. There are still some answers missing however.
"How much would you spend on a bike?" that isn't a simple answer. How much do i have? What do i want to buy? What time of the season do i want to buy? How much do i want the bike?.

An answer of depends on the bike would be useful. Also, not enough age ranges, and a text box for what brands do you know? is a bit irrelevant as the next question asks if you know these then gives an option of other which you then have to fill in.
  • Questions 10 or 11 ... come on. Some of the questions are pretty strange, but hey, someone put a bit of thought into it so I give it a pass as a university project.

That question I think wants to ask "what's the maximum cash you'd dish out for a new bike?" And it has some validity for common people, as when you spend more than 2K on a bike, you're leaving the realm of mortal beings.

Every survey tool I have used allows you to configure questions such that if you only want one response per line, you can limit it to a radio box rather than a tick box (i.e., you select one and if you select another it deselects whatever you previously selected). So either the tool is bad (unlikely) or the question type and configuration is wrong.

I also agree about the redundancy of the "Other" option in the "Have you heard of these brands?" question. Any brand mentioned in the previous question ("List any brands you have heard of") that is subsequently not in your list of brands is, by default, in the "Other" category.

I've written a fair few surveys and I know it takes a lot of thinking to write questions that get the data you are after, as well as defining the question logic, question types and so on.

6/10, good effort but needs more thought.
Cube Reaction GTC Pro 29 for the lumpy stuff
Cannondale Synapse alloy with 'guards for the winter roads
Fuji Altamira 2.7 for the summer roads
Trek 830 Mountain Track frame turned into a gravel bike - for anywhere & everywhere

Which city do you live in resulted in a fairly meaningless answer from me I'm afraid. I don't live in a city (or town), can't stand people or traffic.
Questions seem very much aimed at road/touring. For me, rear suspension is one of the most important features when choosing a bike. I really don't like Trek's rear suspension, for that reason I'd never buy one. I really like Devinci's rear suspension which is one of the reasons I'm considering buying a Devinci Wilson. Frame material is also important, so is frame rigidity. I also don't want any of the ridiculously pointless new gimmicks like plus size wheels, boost axles and 170mm dropper posts.

  • All depends on what sort of bike rack system your using.
