Giant Connect dropper post - help connecting up

I recently bought a second hand bike and received it through the post in a bike box. The Giant dropper post was dissconnected from the frame. I can see where it needs to connect, but can't pull the metal disk on the end of wire out far enough to be able to slot it into the dropper post. Any help much appreciated. Pete
